On March 14th Los Angeles got a treat all the way from France in the form of the artist Jean Andre. This marked the date of his first solo exhibition in the US entitled “Gauloise” which translates to the word ‘bawdy’ (meaning: dealing with sexual matters in a comical way; humorously indecent)..there’s your vocabulary lesson for the day, now i challenge you to use it in a sentence. LOL. Moving right along.. HVW8 Gallery plays host to this exhibition which will run until April 14th. A few of the pieces sold that night to the beautiful actress Joy Bryant (About Last Night, Parenthood) who come to find out through conversation is somewhat of a collector. The night started slow but the event gradually drew a great turn out and was received well. We got a chance to sit down with the artist to talk about his inspirations and thoughts on the LA art scene (video of that conversation will be available shortly). Be sure to stop by the gallery if you’re in the Melrose area, they’re open Tue-Sun 1-6pm. Below are some photos we were able to capture from last weeks occasion. Enjoy!
