French Algerian born artist Adel Abdessemed has constructed a 16 foot high sculpture highlighting the famous “headbutt” given by the French former football champion Zinedine Zidane to Italian player Materazzi during the World Cup final in 2006. The sculpture is held outside Paris’s Centre Pompidou that is one of the largest art museum meccas of the world and goes against the norm of typical statues that glorify a players success or monumental moment of achievements instead paying an ode to defeat. The sculpture is in collaboration with Abdessemed’s solo show at the institution as an installment which runs from October 3-January 7, 2013.
