Midnight… the ball drops, guns pop, it’s new years eve and Shallah Raekwon <\/strong>releases Unexpected Victory at the stroke of twelve, to welcome in 2012, with his unique brand of ice water and caviar raps. Almost 4 weeks and 70,000 downloads later, let’s examine the exclusive datpiff mixtape. <\/p>\n There’s a cinematic intro followed by “Just a Toast” featuring JD Era<\/strong>. This is definitely that courvoisier exclusive sugar Rae rap you’ve come to expect from the chef when he steps in the kitchen. This song sets the tone for the album, if you are looking for cuban linx 3, this is not that. There’s no Wu features on the tape and no RZA<\/strong> beats… But there is alot of banging new age boom bap production from the likes of Scram Jones<\/strong>, 9th Wonder <\/strong>and several other new comers. And although Ghostface<\/strong> is not on the mixtape, Raekwon does kick poisonous darts with everyone from CL Smooth <\/strong>& Sauce Money <\/strong>to Capone N Noreaga<\/strong>, Styles P<\/strong>, Mobb Deep <\/strong>and Busta Rhymes<\/strong>. <\/p>\n He uses this mixtape to give light to his iceH2O cohorts JD Era <\/strong>and Camoflauge<\/strong>, two hungry youngbloods you might not have heard of whom both definitely deserve your attention. <\/p>\n Highlights on the mixtape include “Chinese Marines”, “Silk”, “Goodfellas”, “MTV Cribs”, and my personal favorite “Soldier Story” which features Raekwon<\/strong> writing that mafioso gun clap poetry he is known for while JD Era <\/strong>shouts out everything from NY to Long Beach on the hook. <\/p>\n If you want 36 chambers, go bump that classic ’92 shit… If you are ready for something new from an elder god who has kept up with the politricks of the rap industry for 20 years and remained fresh… Download this shit here and let it slap. <\/p>\n This is one of those mixtapes that sounds more like an album. There are a lot of features, but that leaves you wanting to hear more from Lex Diamonds himself. You’ll find Raekwon<\/strong> running with the wolves and kicking that bulletproof fly shit here… <\/p>\n I’d blow 4 blunts out of a pack of 5 swisher sweets to this.
