Dabrye has released his anticipated new album Three/Three via Ghostly International / Adult Swim. The 19-track album is his first full release in nearly a decade and marks the completion of his acclaimed LP trilogy that first began in 2001 with One/Three and Two/Three. A masterful display of styles and range, Dabrye showcases his ability to adapt the evolution of musical genres over time, while drawing influences and incorporating sonic textures from the past and present.
In a recent interview with the Detroit Metro Times, Dabrye explains his production approach to Three/Three in comparison to the previous two albums in the series saying “I think the biggest difference is the first two albums had more editing trickery. I felt like I didn’t want to overstate that, and 10 years later it isn’t really that novel. The electronic side of hip-hop as a genre isn’t really that unusual now. It’s kind of commonplace – it’s in the commercial music, it’s everywhere. So I went back to my roots to more traditional styles of hip-hop.”
Three/Three is stacked with an all-star cast with collaborations from MF DOOM, Ghostface Killah, L.A. wordsmith Jonwayne, and Long Island’s rugged surrealist Roc Marciano. Detroit is well represented and celebrated with some of the city’s finest in Danny Brown, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, Kadence, Quelle Chris, Shigeto, Clear Soul Forces and more. Alongside the digital release comes an individual vinyl release, as well as a limited vinyl box set release including a reissue of One/Three, Two/Three, and a repress of the rare and out of print Instrmntl.
