Drizzy is back! We haven’t heard much from Drake since Take Care in 2011 besides a few features here and there in 2012. Seems like Drake makes 2013 the year for comeback, from the features in Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky’s latest singles, to the YMCMB rapper finally giving us some new solo shit- “Started From The Bottom”!
Drake released “Started From The Bottom” on February 1st via his October’s Very Own blog spot, taking it back to where he started his musical journey. This marks to be the first single off Drizzy’s upcoming, yet untitled, third studio album.
The Mike Zombie produced “Started From The Bottom” finds the actor-tunred-rapper reflecting upon a few of the events that lead path towards music making success. With a triumphant chant he repeats on the hook:
“started from the bottom, now we here. Started from the bottom, now my whole team fucking here!”
Drake also takes the time to recite a few lines to the skeptics, as he drops these lines on the 2nd verse:
“Boys tell stories about the man
Say I never struggled, wasn’t hungry, yeah, I doubt it nigga.
I could turn your boy into the man
There ain’t really much I hear that’s poppin’ off without us, nigga
We just want the credit where it’s due
I’ma worry about me, give a fuck about you
Nigga, just as a reminder to myself
I wear every single chain, even when I’m in the house

right before going back into the hook.
Drizzy released the single with a personal message in which he shares “It has truly been too long… Today is the day to begin sharing my newest work with you… I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events… I didn’t feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me…”
I’m sure all of you are anxiously looking forward to, as much as I am, to everything Drake has in store for us in 2013 with this upcoming album. And it looks like the album is off to a pretty good start, as a myriad of positive approval have been circulating all around for “Started From the Bottom”. This that new crew anthem- listen up, get it!
