Before stepping out for the evening, I took to Spotify for a taste of the electro/chill, sample-based pop genre curated by the likes of Groundislava and headliner, Giraffage. As a semi new kid on the block I was looking forward to being hypnotized by the video game-esque vibes from the earlier mixes of Los Angeles, California resident Groundislava but, was caught off guard and surprisingly offbeat by a creative mesh of brand new melodies from a selection of promising instrumentalist/producers/dj’s.

Stumbling crowds of love struck couples, hipsters and some who seemed as if they may have lost their way shuffled into Santa Monica’s Central SAPC venue for a Saturday night in with Zoo’s // Zoo’s and IHEARTCOMIX who orchestrated this gathering of like minds.

First up from the line up, was FuzZ (TeamSupreme), who could be heard from the lot warming everyone up with bass hitting beats mixed in with a familiar type of yo mama’s jams as they all quickly trickled in. By the time we reached beyond the ropes, Yalls was wrapping up his set of fantasy plays and Groundislava was plugging in. If capacity hadn’t yet been reached it was most certainly on it’s way by sideways maneuvers of excuse me’s and coming through’s. A type of haze filled the room and from there a mash up of eclectic yet subtle tunes continued on into the evening as a carefree crowd tossed their bodies back and forth with the occasional arm wave. For about an hour, the platform was his lair with every twist and turn of each dial encouraging the crowd to party on.

When Giraffage stepped out, the room was past half full and everyone, I mean, everyone was enjoying his collaboration of dreamy pop instrumentals. Heads were too high up in the clouds to name that tune but we were definitely humming along. The deeper we immersed ourselves the more tightly packed the narrow space became and we were damn near holding hands while rocking out in unison. At one point, no lie, the entire room went for the same two step and for a moment we were united by the sounds of music. These kids knew what was up and that was to simply enjoy the night – collectively.
