There is a place that defies logical thinking, a place where collaborations normally perceived to be impossible or improbable merge together with fluid-like ease. It is a place where humans who are submerged in the deluge that is “the rat race” are able to take refuge and emerge unscathed as the inter-dimensional beings they are recharged and ready to tackle another day in the world. Every third Tuesday of the month magic happens in Leimert Park, CA. An event amply named Bananas (because the goings on there simply is) takes place. It is a place where the semi-unknown trade places with familiar names you may hear around town and become infamous where those of the mainstream are forgotten. Tonight’s voyage was captained by none other than the founder of Bananas and local rapper VerBS with performances by Trip Folk band Earlybizrd and The Bee’s, soothing melodies from Rocksteady band The Steady 45’s and conscious raps from the inspirational Mine+Us.

Every performer seemed to connect with the previous in a way that made the night seem like one song, like one performance as a whole. As the event preceded all eyes turned to special guest Iman Omari and guest host MoRuf (who also hosted the Iman Omari “Viberations” album release show late last week) with the highest anticipation as they put together one of the most riveting Bananas performances to date.
