California’s full of little treasures. For those Left Coasters on the hunt who dig live music and film, here’s one that pops up every month down in Long Beach. It’s called Beat Theatre. Now, to truly cherish this unique treasure, you’ve got to be like us over here at ILLSOCIETY and be down with two things: dope beats and some dope shit to look at while you listen to them. Beat Theatre presents a different film each month, re-scored and remixed with live beat performances. Basically, it’s a DIY movie theatre space in the heart of Long Beach that you’d enter (preferably high), take a seat in, chill, and vibe out to silent segments of classic psychedelic and cult-films while a featured producer laces them with their own original soundtrack, live, in front of you. It’s quite dope. So for heads like us who dig trippy films, live beats, & are interested in them being mashed into a psyched out medley of montages for your eyes & ears to get lost in space to, this is the place to be.
Last month’s edition featured segments of the surreal, animated, French sci-fi films “Fantastic Planet” (a Madlib favorite) & “Gandahar” being laced by such producers as Memesy, NiceguyxVinny, Eludem, Zikomo & AshTreJenkins.
The next edition, on July 9th, will feature two surprise cult flicks being re-scored by a special line-up featuring Co.Fee, Lamebot, GiNGEE & others. If you find yourself in the LBC, this is something you mos def want to slide through and vibe to.
