Artist: Big Sean feat. Jay-Electronica & Kendrick Lamar
Song: “Control”
Released: August 12, 2013
As, rap game Detroit player Big Sean prepares to release his upcoming Sophomore album Hall Of Fame he surprised listeners tonight on Hot 97‘s Funkmaster Flex segment with the exclusive premier of “Control” featuring hip-hop lyrical heavy weights, Jay-Electronica and Kendrick Lamar.
Yes indeed, it’s an oddly trio over the 7-minute No I.D. produced track and although Big Sean makes a good effort to rise to par with both of these lyrically reputable emcees, he falls quickly once Kendrick goes in. And it is safe to say that even the respectably Jay-Elec is left slightly behind on this one.
The TDE conglomerate uses the piano key-chiming bell-and tambourine-ringing track to roll call his “competition” in the game:
“I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhyming’ with
But this is hip hop and them niggas should know what time it is
And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale
Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake
Big Sean, Jay Electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller
I got love for you all but I’m trying to murder you niggas
Trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas
They don’t wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas…”
And just like that, K.Dot might have given you one of the hottest verses of the year on this one!
“Control” will not be included in Big Sean’s upcoming album due to issues with clearing the sample, however Hall Of Fame looks to be a stellar filled album with or without Kendrick and Jay-Elec, as he gathers contribution from Nas, Miguel, Pharrell Williams, Kid Cudi, Nicky Minaj, Lil’ Wayne, Young Jeezy, and Ellie Goulding. Hall Of Fame is now available on itunes for pre-order, and will officially be due out August 27th.
Oh, and did I fail to mention that Kendrick just crowned himself “King Of New York” ? Oh yes, he did! No biggie (with no pun intended).
