Autumn Winter 2014 unveils the dynamic debut collection from recently appointed Creative Director Simon Spurr. A considered evolution, re-establishing British heritage whilst showcasing a bold new aesthetic; modernizing the full lifestyle wardrobe of the Kent and Curwen man.

Inspired by British naval dress uniform, double faced, Melton Peacoats are cut close to the body and trimmed with lion head crested metal buttons and leather epaulettes. Rich wool/cashmere Officer’s coats are luxuriously trimmed with rabbit fur at the lapel.

The brands new philosophy begins with the reinterpretation and juxtaposition of iconic pieces: Motorcycle jackets, channel quilted at the lapel, are paired with tuxedo trousers and set again exploded fairisle jumpers, whilst Duffle coats are updated with Aran sleeves, and reversible cricket sweaters are offered in a range of brilliant colours.

Drawing upon the rich tradition and sporting roots of the brand, the classic pique polo weave has been oversized in proportion and become the signature pattern of the collection. Whether executed in geometric hexagonal prints in shirting and small leather goods or as hexagonal quilted leather jackets, the result is masculine and modern.

Fabric continues to play a vital role with Mr Spurr’s collections and this season is no different with an intentionally strong use of British suiting cloths and collaborations with British manufacturer’s such as Fox Umbrellas and Loake shoes; under scoring the brands origins from 1926.

Some of the stand out fabrications are the modern wool/silk tweeds executed in monochromatic grey, and Flannel suiting which is either laser cut or is printed with wide regatta stripes that serve as a nod to the brands tie origins.

As part of the collections re branding, the cricket ‘Splice’, a powerful, angular shard inspired by the V-shaped detailing on a cricket bat, is referenced throughout the collection and has become a prominent mark of the Kent and Curwen brand.

Pops of color add an unexpected statement with a color palette of Vicuna, Olive Green, Burnt Orange, Yellow, Turquoise, Prussian Blue, Grey, Navy, ‘cricket ball’ burgundy alongside graphic black and white and the signature Kent and Curwen dark racing green.
