10.Deep has released its Spring 2014 collection, titled “Internationally Known”. The collection explores the connections between the diverse array of cultures that have informed the streetwear community from which the brand has emerged.
While New York City street-wear rose on its own through decades of development, its existence was nurtured and much of its style was refined in Japan. This first offering of the Spring collection speaks to these links and the role that Japan played in its evolution. Following this idea, 10.Deep decided to create a collection that reads like an American’s stab at making Japanese street wear (which is, ironically, itself a refinement of American street wear style). Heavy Kanji-laden graphic applications and cherry blossom prints are contrasted with old western paisley handkerchief prints, workwear references and other classic western silhouettes. The results are the embodiment of hybridized culture that is neither Japanese nor American but full of references to both.
