NiceGuyxVinny releases his new project, VISTA – meaning, a far-reaching mental view – during a complicated time in his life. Vinny used the creative process behind this project as a chance to escape from his own reality – even the self-designed cover is a collage of nostalgic Polaroids. Though a personal project, the result is a collection of sounds we can all use to reflect, escape and create.
The 10-track instrumental album consists of clips and snippets of films and songs that remind NiceGuyxVinny of the people who inspire him. Each track is named after a special person in his life.
DJs can sneak “Lawrence” into a rowdy party mix, “Maydra” is fit for Sunday meditation and incense burning, and “Adeline” serves up a hypnotic trance vibe.
Jamiroquai’s “Canned Heat” on “Savannah” surprisingly transitions into a slow, dreamy beat with a male-voice commanding us to “drop it.” The sweet sample of Selena’s “Dreaming of You” on VISTA’s finale “Conrado” is flipped into a bass heavy repetition.
Each track is crafted with enough personality to stand out, but still complement one another as a cohesive project. Though we may have individual influences and experiences that have different effects on our lives, it’s still easier to function when the bigger picture makes sense. That’s what VISTA is – a compilation of various moments packaged into a sensible work of art.
