The Roots recently released their latest visuals for their music video “Understand” off the bands 14th studio album titled “…And Then You Shoot Your Cousin.” The video depicts combined illustrations to setup the feel and look of a church storage facility where the action being taken is countless metaphors of the church getting money from various resources within the storage room along with dancing bibles, piano playing church songs, collection plates, & the sacrament of the blood and body of Jesus. In the song, the chorus says..

People ask for God, ’till the day he comes
See God’s face – turn around and run
God sees the face of a man
Shaking his head, says “he’ll never understand”
People ask for god, ’till the day he comes
See God’s face – turn around and run
God sees the face of a man
Shaking his head then says, “man’ll never understand”

Towards the end of the song all the elements of the church come together to depict us all as being one with the dark comes to the light and no matter what the outcome we all find ourselves coming back to God. The song and overall album is a little more on the dark and conscious side of things for The Roots that take different things going on in the world and shines a mirror back as a reflection of who we are.
