Parra premiered “Same Old Song” exhibit June 28 at HVW8 Gallery.
Parra’s fifth exhibition at HVW8 includes new paintings and drawings of his trademark, beaked humanoids in highly saturated colors. “Same Old Song” seems to represent familiar situations in not-so-familiar form. Parra’s figures are naked, angry and face down in puddles of beer. The works are comical, but thought-provoking.
HVW8 hosted an opening reception complete with open bar and indie sounds. The team was perfectly hospitable – from Kelly at the door, Bones the security, to interns Matt and Dom who worked the floor throughout the night.
Attendees sipped and mingled while taking pictures in front of the large mural painted on the gallery’s parking lot wall. Buyers swiped their cards directly on the spot for a piece of Parra’s work. The artist himself also chilled amongst the crowd. You can view Parra’s “Same Old Song” painting and drawing below.
The exhibit runs through August 10.
