Thirty years after signing his sponsorship deal with Etonic, former NBA star Hakeem Olajuwon has teamed up once again with the US trainer brand to re-issue his trademark ‘Akeem The Dream’ basketball shoe.
Etonic was the athletes first sponsor in 1984 and Olajuwon went on to lead the Houston Rockets to back to back championships until his retirement in 2003.
Speaking about the restored partnership, Olajuwon says, “When I became the Etonic Brand Ambassador during my rookie year, Etonic was fresh and new in the basketball arena. It’s been my ambition to continue my brand in the footwear and apparel industry. From product development to testing on the court is creatively satisfying. Teaming back up with Etonic is a natural progression for me. I’m thrilled about this new venture to reintroduce the retro Etonic Dream collection, as well as to develop and launch Brand Dream. The Dream Team behind this undertaking is a seasoned group of exceptional individuals and entrepreneurs. I respect Bruce Weisfeld’s willingness to invest in assembling the best team. The Akeem The Dream trainer will be available from the 1st of August at select retailers including Foot Patrol UK, Atmos NY, Nice Kicks and Barneys NY.
