Album: Days Before Rodeo
Released: August 18, 2014

Travi$ Scott has been all over the scene in the music game recently from producing, directing, and delivering art as a visual mastermind through the year for himself as well as contributing to fellow G.O.O.D Music family. In mid August, he dropped his latest “Days Before Rodeo” that’s a testament back to his Southern roots back in the Lone star state of Texas. The album’s first half is layered in dark and ghostly production fused with a trap influence. He commonly uses beat switches and hard hitting bass as some of his signature elements throughout his production. The production contains familiar elements, but the dark feeling it creates is something new and is one of Scott’s key pieces of his own new musical identity he has struggled in the past to find.

On the albums intro titled “The Prayer,” Scott sets the tone of the album by rapping “Man, I might fuck around, loose my mind, I gotta break out,” signaling both his heavy drug use and his desire to break the mold of a typical rapper and create music that stands the test of time. One of the standout records on the album “Mamacita” featuring Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug contains a western feel playing into the rodeo theme Scott plays out that’s sound could be the score of a new era Western style movie.

On “Drugs You Should Try It,” Scott blends a slow tempo and auto toned vocals to create one of the best tracks of the album. It shows his diversity as something more than just a rapper who sticks to hard hitting trap tracks. In all, the album is a well put together catalog from top to bottom so press play above and enter the mind of Travi$ Scott.
