Born in 1957 in Chicago, Illinois, hyperrealistic oil painter Dan Witz earned a BFA from NYC’s Cooper Union. Witz’s photo-realistic mosh pits, nightscapes, and portraits provide a soothing look into some of the most uncomfortable situations. His technique is a perfect culmination of placid lighting with a calming mood working in perfect contrast to his more animalistic themes. Don’t miss his new solo show coming to the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York entitled “Mosh Pits, Human and Otherwise.” The show opens on June 30th, 2011 and runs until July 30th. The Chicago native Dan Witz delves into a realm characterized by hyper realism and photo-quality paintings with his latest experimental series. At first look it’s quite easy to assume Witz’s latest “Mosh Pits” Paintings are photographs of actual concert chaos. The level of detail, shading and lighting that Witz infuses into each painting results in an impressive series of lie-like works of art. Representing his Gallery Work portfolio, the Mosh Pits series rounds out Witz’s extensive range of diverse work that encompasses both high-end paintings and gritty street art iterations as well.
