Earl Sweatshirt released his latest album, I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside, earlier this week. Compared to his predecessor album, this one takes on simplicity and is fairly short, contains few features and one guest producer. But that’s not an understatement. The cohesiveness of the dark undertone production and his newfound confidence heard through his lyrics paint the picture of his struggles. Earl’s few features came from rising emcees—Dash, Wiki, Na’kel, and Vince Staples—and took on an underdog approach.

In an interview with NPR Music, Earl stated: “With the music it’s not even about the competitive thing, I stopped trying to compete.”

I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside, is all Earl. You hear the young emcee achieve clarity through his struggles of a past relationship in Mantra, his grandmother’s death in Huey and his forced hiatus to Samoa in Faucet.

Some of our favorite tracks are: Faucet, Grief, AM// Radio, and DNA.
