When u think the bay… Think e-40, think Mac dre. Think too short. Think Iamsu but don’t forget the jacka… RIP.
But definitely think Iamsu. The HBK Gang representative rolled thru LA on a Thursday night and turned the El Rey up for an all ages show. The house wasn’t sold out, but the crowd that came out definitely was out there trying to function.
Diversity was in the air and you could see people from many walks of life all coming together around the central beacon of hip hop. There were Hipsters, white girls, hippie black chicks, a couple OGs, I seen a vato out there rocking Villans LA. There were some graffiti writing looking ass muh fxckaHz, some cool black guys with their beards dyed. I saw somebody wearing a d9 hat. It was a fly, fashionable, cultural bunch.
And that’s why Iamsu stepped out singing about how he loves his squad in auto-tune. Everybody had their cell phones in the air to capture the moment as one of the bay’s youngest and brightest stepped on stage to get down.
And that’s when Iamsu showed the city of angels love by bringing out Casey Veggies. The young god showed us how to make that $ do a backflip and then gave the stage back to Iamsu.
And for real, that guy wants the top. Nothing less.
He made a toast to the crowd. A toast to million dollar dreams. I lifted my glass to the sky with him and the rest of the crowd. And then he rapped about how he just made $100,000 out a plan he came up with. That’s inspiration. Get your paperwork right.
The crowd wasn’t at capacity but people were turning up. One white boy was so drunk it took a group of 4 security guards to carry him out. His clique did the walk of shame behind him while Iamsu rapped about not getting it twisted on the paper chase.
The Heart Break Gang day ones, were in the building. P-Lo got on the mic and put it down. Heart Break Gang rightfully so cuz they might just fuck your bitch. The crew had the merch booth set up in the back by the bar if you needed to get fresh.
The crowd sung along with Su as he had them slow down baby before he smashed the gas pedal through all of his hits.
Worry about a hater? Not me… Su had the crowd control on fleek with that call and response during Everything About Me. You know the Oakland native is riding around getting doe mobbing. If he throws that money, he’s gonna make it back. Only that real shit. That’s what I expected and that’s what went down.
Iamsu had everybody put they 3s in the air at the end of his performance. They did a different 3 than TDE. Not the same 3s Kendrick had people put in the air during the section 80 era. This was more like the German 3. You know what I’m talking about if you’ve seen Inglorious Bastards.
The crowd slowly filtered out as the house lights came on in the venue. Rome Fortune was chilling under the marquis, building with the people. Shout him out, he’s a humble brother. I didn’t catch his set, but that Small VVorld tape go hard.
Those in the know hit the after party in Hollywood. An all ages show always ends a little early. Them young bloods got curfews to attend to. Make sure you stay in the loop. You know ya man’s @DropJewelz.
