Hopefully everyone had a fun and safe 4th of July..cuz we sure did! Lock and Key was the place to be this past Saturday as the Brownies and Lemonade crew along with ILLSOCIETY, Nu-Soul Mag, Shifty Rhythms, and Modern Filth, came super correct with the Independence Day edition of Camp Trill. There was a line stretching down the block to get in to the Koreatown speakeasy, which came as no surprise with the anticipation of a rare dj set by a Cali legend DJ Quik that had been building since its announcement a couple weeks ago. It was poppin early with the BandL All-Stars Fernet, COVNTRY CLVB, and GoJira firing up the packed house with their back to back style of sound mixing. In the midst of all the upbeat rhythms coming from the recently updated dj booth, there was plenty of fun being had on the patio with sprays from water guns going in every direction and herbal essence filled the air.
Inside, there was a constant line at the bar with guests enjoying a special cocktail/food menu which included a spiked lemonade and the amazing Ramen burger that has a growing popularity amongst our crowd. Trillectro co-founder DJ Spicoli was up next to give us his selection of party jams and Soulection’s AbJo followed up with an,as always, energizing display of sound artistry. People poured out onto the wood deck with the arrival of the Compton native who blessed us first with his presence and second a classic set of classics from his catalog along with other nostalgic West Coast tunes. As if that wasn’t enough, the crowd got a surprise performance from Long Beach’s rising rap star Boogie, if you’re not familiar, just follow the noise coming from the west side. It wasn’t over tho, the party carried on into the early night as our crowd mixed with local bar goers. If you weren’t about to make it out for all the festivities, check out the photos below to see what you missed.
