Album: Movemeants II: The Reprise
Artist: Jansport J
Released: April 3, 2012

This tape makes me wanna freestyle. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s fluid, well thought out, and it knocks. Most of the tracks clock in at just under 2 minutes, which gives an emcee enough time to spit out a 16 in the cypher, pass it to the next man and keep it moving. Some samples are sped down, some are reversed, and some you might recognize from J-Dilla or 2pac. But that’s aight tho… how many versions of “Ain’t No Sunshine” are there? The sound bites and skits in between beats keeps things pushing in a good direction. Occasionally I had to pass the dutchie on the left hand side and skip a track, but over all, this tape is consistent and fresh. Jansport J comes through in the clutch with the bass.

The way J flips the ”uh” from A Tribe Called Quest’s ”Check The Rime” is dope on the beat ”Check. ”1234567” will remind you of ”The 10 Crack Commandments”. That beat is dark and goes hard just like the Run DMC sample on the cut. ”The Omen” sounds like witchcraft over drum breaks. The only question left is how many J’s are in the Jansport? On MOVEMEANTS II: THE REPRISE… there are 30 of them, and you are bound to find some that burn right for any given mood.

You can purchase hard copies on his bandcamp or the digital version on itunes if you are into instrumentals, making beats and wanna know how to string together a good beat tape, or you could check this shit out just to hear solid production from a renowned producer. It’s definitely a good listen. There’s no question about it, when it comes to quality… Sport done did it tho.

you know your man’s “DROPS JEWELZ”. peep game.
