Right from the first note of this to be released album Nick Waterhouse is strong, upbeat, and displays some musical knowledge that many kids his age do not know of or have. At the tender age of 25 he has the patience and understands what it takes to replicate, with such skills, the soulful sounds of R&B. He will be releasing a piece of work that has landed him in a group of other young bucks that bring back to life the vintage noise of the music a lot of our grandparents know of and tell stories about. If you are a fan of Mayor Hawthorne, Raphael Saadiq, Sharon Jones, Adele, Buddy Holly, and Chuck Berry you will definitely have to grab this album. Using vintage equipment recording the 11 track album has us reminiscing the smooth sounds that use to come from Gold Star Studios. Even though the young gent has what it seems to master the 50’s R&B sound he doesn’t just blend into the music. Making it his own with the up beat instrumentals, addictive choruses, his strong versatile voice and that mono static noise we forgot about.
“Don’t You Forget It” is a track that is a hit. It seems that Nick wanted to make the hips move and the shoulders sway to the heavy trumpet, deep up to no good vocals, loud snare drum breaks, and lyrics that show there is a dark side to all types of characters out there. He also went to work on the “(if) You Want Trouble”. The guitar comes in first slow then picks up on the beat to lead the traditional sound of his album. The drums and guitar are prominent on this track with the trumpet still being a major part of his production. quick snapping snares have you clapping to the sound all the way through and will definitely have the show becoming a ground shaker.
