Over the past few years, Bed-Stuy has become a hotbed of innovative dance music and party culture. On May 7, RBMA NYC curated a dope party highlighting Brooklyn’s most groundbreaking party collectives and DJs.
Even though it rained, it didn’t stop the people of Brooklyn from coming out and turning up at Sugarhill! With the assistance of heaters and umbrellas the weather wasn’t too much of a bother, the sun eventually came out later in the day. In fact the rain seemed to enhance Baltimore artist abu Ali’s live performance with Tygapaw djing!
Brooklyn fashion was in full force; a style I’ve noticed tends to be a mixture of thrifted items, designer, and in your face colors. An oversized denim shirt mixed with adidas y3s was one of my personally favorite looks. A badass vintage leather jacket with variations of street bikes on the back was another cool sight.
Juliana Huxtable, Bearcat, Papi Juice, and FXWRK all had dope DJ sets, and the large crowd that had built up was loving it even more when the sun came out. A giant beach ball was being tossed around at the luau themed space, which was cool. Palm trees and mixed drinks with umbrellas helped keep the mood wavy. There was even an indoor stage with a rad DJ table setup going on at the same time as the outdoor festivities!
