As she took the stage in the intimate Constellation Room at the Observatory OC, Jorja Smith looked every part the superstar dressed in her pink sweat suit. As she launched into “Something In The Way” you could tell this sultry young singer has the potential to sell out stadium arenas in the very near future.
But first Ms. Smith’s performance was complemented by an incredible opening set by Niia (Pronounced Nigh-uh). The singer powered through some amazing records off her album I and even showed off her abilities on the keyboard. Some standout tracks were “Hurt You First” and “Girl Like Me”. She even expertly wove a verse from the classic “California Dreaming” by the Mamas & the Papas. Niia is definitely an artist to keep an eye on.
Backed by a full band, Ms. Smith effortlessly led the sold out venue through a dream like walk through her young but highly sophisticated catalog. The packed house was mesmerized by her stage presence and voice all though her set which included records off her EP Project 11 as well as newer singles. A crowd favorite was Maverick Sabre who joined Ms. Smith on stage for “Carry Me Home”. His voice pairs remarkably well with the singer. Recently Ms. Smith seems to be everywhere and if you’re lucky enough to catch one of her shows now, you will certainly remember the experience as she continues to assent to the top.
