Elusive: Illumination Knock

Part space age funk, and part trill wave renaissance, this release is just as purple as grape soda. You can hear the lo-fi swing off the SP-404 throughout the tape. Elusive got that slow motion west coast beach cruiser shit to sip your 40 ounces to. “ILLumination Knock” definitely got verbatim to add to the low end theory. From 2000 beyond… this isn’t boom bap, but it preserves its essence in spirit. It’s next level. Don’t blow your speakers out from the bass on this record. If the phantom of the opera played synthesizer chords and had a steady diet of kush and orange juice… it might sound something like this. It’s like a brass monkey with a twist of technotroniks to it. It’s slow enough to be screwed down with promethazine & codeine, but it’s energetic enough to jog to. Shiiit… I could even picture Prince singing over some of these breaks just as easily as I could see Biz Markie ripping through 16’s on ’em. This is early morning summer shit. Blast this on your way to the do-over, or champagne brunch at the Hilton. Bump this when you’re leaving the after-party as the sun is rising over the eastern horizon. This is what Apollo gets his wake and bake on to, with a chronic omelette and a bowl of raisin bran with two scoops of sugar in it. It’s like Roy Ayers in the digital age, playing space invaders and tetris. Don’t sleep on this shit right here.

You can cuff a bitch to “Heaven” and get all snuggly and cuddly up in that cutty. “Close Your Eyes” is chopped up with some De La Soul vocal samples sprinkled in it. “Ginger Snap” got a funky ass Bootsy Collins twang to it… Other stand out cuts include: “Pure Imagination” and “Mid Nite Sun.” The EP is only 7 tracks deep, and each cut packs heat like a police officer. Every instrumental got its own little taste to accompany the bouquet of freshness. Make sure you go cop this with the quickness at elusive.bandcamp.com

– you know ya man’s Drop Jewelz.
