Album: The Progress EP 3:Manifest Awesome
Artist: VerBs
Released: July 24, 2012

Steve Zissou is gonna have a run for his money claiming all the fame to that red beanie look pretty soon. VerBs has been putting in work, matching his socks to his hat and the life aquatic while smashing out on his bike and rocking show after show. He’s been on tour with Murs and Sick Jacken, he’s rocked with the Swim Team from Project Blow’d in Leimert Park to the stages of Guerilla Union’s Paid Dues festival series, and he’s been out hustling his own brand of independent hip hop with everyone from Nocando to Kosha Dillz. They don’t call him Young Thunder Panda for nothing.

Manifest Awesome is the 3rd installment of VerBS‘ Progress EP series, and is presented in part by the Hellfyre Club. The first Progress EP was damn near a classic, featuring soulful beats, dope raps and exclusive photography work tailor made to each individual album. The 3rd time around, the release is digital and readily available at verbs.bandcamp.com.

And no doubt, VerBS gotta unique style worth your time checking out. It’s eclectic as the fashion designs you can find straight out of the vintage boutiques which seem to pop up everywhere here in the city of Lost Angels. It’s something you can listen to while cupcaking with your little boo boo kitty fuck, but still stay fresh to it while pushing the pedals on your fixie and getting a proper cardio workout.

The beats are a mix of mega natural synthesizers, drum claps, 808 bass kicks and lo-fi samples. It’s progressive rock with a drum machine’s twist. It’s a little punk, a little electro, and mos def there’s something to snap your neck to on this project. It’s a little out there though, so don’t expect conventional boom bap. Take a sip of this strangebrew, keep your thoughts open and let the new age blowdian expand your mind.

Stand out cuts include: “Seasons Change (BITCHES REMIX)”, “Last Summer Felt Like A Dream”, and “Ignorance is Bliss.” VerBS got features from Sahtyre, Bless Escro, and even his own mama and more on the album, yet Young Thunder Panda himself always seems to command the spotlight. The beats are provided by everyone from Flying Lotus and Duke Westlake to Buddah Shampoo and Ugly Delicious. So expect the unexpected, but expect it to put you in a good mood.

Manifest Awesome can help you block out the negative and dance at the party. Don’t be scurred, VerBS gotta lot of soul in his barwork, and the humble approach he takes to his music and his grind is refreshing. Long Live the Red Beanie. Culver City’s own is definitely lacing mics with honest raps taken directly from his life experience. And that’s art suitable to make Andy Warhol check out Bananas on a Tuesday night. Make sure you keep up with VerBS‘ progress and catch him if you can @VerBSisthehomie on twitter.
