The I.E. was in full effect in the town of Pomona as the Glasshouse was home to the Second Annual D.I.Y. Music and Fashion Fest, September 8th. Independent fashion makers and vendors had the opportunity to showcase and sell their brands to all the trend setters in attendance that night, but the main attraction of the event was that it was equipped with some of the most cutting-edge independent rappers emerging straight out of the Inland Empire.

The night was hosted by 3D Beats and, none other than the man behind the event, Noa James. D.I.Y’s musical line-up consisted of talents: A.R.S., 3D Beats, Twin Towers, Fredo, Chief, Cam Archer, Smokin’ Ice, Dirty Suspects, N.I.D. Music, and some of the nights best performances included Cam Gnarly, Kasino Gang, Curtiss King, and headliner Stevie Crooks.

Cam Gnarly held down the stage performing tracks off his debut project Cam Meets World, attracting a lot of the ladies to the forefront and keeping a balance by having all the fellas hyped and turnt up. Kasino Gang had everybody in the spot bouncing and throwing their hands up in the air to some raw shit. Blackcloud’s, Curtiss King brought it home performing various songs off his DIY EP. Curtiss really lit up the crowd with “Sinbad” where he was joined by comrade Noa James, and he left us with a back to back encore of his recent feel-good, mellow grooved, banger and crowd favorite “Ratchets Still Jockin”. Stevie Crooks stole the night spitting tracks off his Cashmere Killer release. Crooks had everybody vibing from side to side with his smooth westcoast sound, with tracks like “Iverson”, “Bill Bellamy”, and “Crazy 8”.

DIY Fest was an overall ill and successful event, despite all the commotion taken place in P-Town that night, so much that not even when the event wrapped up people where ready to leave; The crowd pleaded for a acapella freestyle from Noa James which was exquisitely given prior to thanking everyone for coming out and supporting. Rap cyphers were created outside where a few of the nights attendees spit some fun and lyrical lines. It was most definitely a great night for independent hip hop and a winning night for the growing talent of the I.E. We look forward to the growth and success of everyone and everything surrounding this DIY festival. Much success and respect to everyone on their grind who were involved in making this event. Shout out to Brick To Ya Face, Lesa, & Noa James. Hope to see y’all at next years event.
