Album: Bars On Me
Artist: Chis Webby
Released: September 30, 2012

Bars On Me has finally hit the internet and its nothing less of what Chris Webby fans expected-Soild. Bars On Me is hosted by DJ Drama and the production is crazy! Not to mention the features aren’t too bad either. Method Man, Bun B, Kid Ink, Emilio Rojas, Prodigy and Jon Connor all make an appearance. With the release of this project the Connecticut MC shows his development and growth as an artist, while staying true to his witty metaphors, and heavy-hitting punch lines that have helped him earn an immense underground following.

Webby starts this tape off with “Bars On Me”, which is a humorous freestyle produced by Cardo, that is just full of clever rhyme schemes that pack heavy punches at every turn. “Moving shit/I’m just trying to be what I’m supposed to be/Supposedly I’m dope, St. Nicholas ain’t as cold as me/The thing we got in common is I’m always with a Ho or three/Make them drop it like someone with Parkinson’s carrying groceries…”

The tape’s standout track which features Method Man is “CT to Shaoulin”. It’s got a vintage beat reminiscent of the Wu-tang day’s, the two illustrate how hip-hop and rhyming can surpass their extremely different backgrounds. “Suburban rap, ‘cedes back, slay it when I lay a track/The fourth Animaniac, the Timothy McVeigher rap/They so concerned whit swag that they forgot about the basics/That’s some shit I can’t respect, I’ll never hold my tongue or take it back/This is art, this is true, this is all I know/The only time I feel at peace is when I start to flow/I don’t care if the masses think that my shit’s hot/cuz this is raw, this is me, this is hip hop!”

On “Wait a Minute”, Webby spits about not letting any groupie, no matter how bad she may be- turn his attention from makin that cheese. “There’s a woman that I love and she gave birth to me in 88/Aside from all these bitches all come second to the paper chase/Not to sound conceited but I work my fucking ass off/I’ll be a dumb motherfucker if I let the women take away from me stacking all of my cash dawg…”. Bun B and Kid Ink are also featured and you know they drop jewels on this unsympathetic beat. Like Bun B says “Now I’m in the game, fuck the fortune and the pain/Don’t get caught up in the pleasant lights and banners with your name/It’s all here today then it’s all gone tomorrow/In the clubs you made it rain, they won’t let you come back and borrow…”

“Bowser” is without a doubt self-explanatory. All eighties and nineties babies know who Bowser is and pretty much Webby is talking about how he’s shitting on the game as Mario and luigi’s bully, arch nemesis, Bowser. “The pick of the litter with vigorous flow/Keep the bitches titties jigglin’ yo/I stick and I go, I’m better than you/No matter how you try to figure it bro/The villain is back, killin’ a track/Won’t stop till I got me a million in cash/Listen to facts, R2 trigger attack, drop that magnificent rap/Giggity, giggity, giggity, splat, the illest up in the vicinity’s map…”

Chris Webby may just be a part of an inexplicable golden age of white rappers including Logic, Mac Miller, MGK and Yelawolf (just to name a few). Is he the new Marshall as he likes to boast? Cop his latest here and decide for yourself!
