Bakersfield, CA producer oriJanus drops his release on Soulection’s White Label Series. The 3 tracks EP is a perfect example of using your own interpretation to sampling samples that have already been done. oriJanus take a fresh approach as he flips some of our favorite classic tracks. The EP starts off with A Tribe Called Quest – Bonita Applebum inspired track titled, “Bonita.” The original sample to Bonita Applebum was sampled from Daylight by Ramp (circa 1977). Then it continuous with “6,” another hip-hop classic flip. This time from the track Rebirth Of The Slick (Cool Like Dat) off Digable Planets 1993 debut album Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space). The last track to the EP oriJanus links up with Baltimore producer Tek.Lun (HW&W) & LA’s own Zikomo (Soulection) for the track “Hot Remix,” which they flipped K-os’s 2002 hit Superstarr, Pt.Zero. The original sample comes from Pal Joey, Hot Music (circa 1994).
Some of our favorite classic albums have been out for over 20 years already. Why not treat those records like how Pete Rock, DJ Primere, Diamond D, and all the other great producers that came after them treated Funk, Soul, and Jazz records in there days.
